Sounds for Pictures
Whenever I'm working in my studio I like to listen to music. Something without too many lyrics. Something ambient yet interesting. It helps my mood and concentration. Music that I don't have to pay attention to - it's just there. Jazz is great if it's not too outside or edgy or abstract. Almost anything by Miles Davis and/or John Coltrane will do nicely. Reggae is also helpful (I like the old school style), Wailers, Burning Spear, Skatellites, Rico Rodrigues.
Here is a list of some music I like to paint by:
- "Another Green World" Brian Eno
- "Cluster & Eno" German electronic group Cluster and Brian Eno
- "Windflower" Herb Ellis & Remo Palmer
- "Ptah, the El Douad" Alice Coltrane
- "Claire de Lune" Claude Debussy
- "My Favorite Things" John Coltrane
- "Gymnopedie No. 1" Erik Satie
- "Feeling Blue" Paul Desmond
- "Bach To The Blues" Ramsey Lewis Trio
- "The Soulful Piano of Junior Mance"
- "Kind of Blue" Miles Davis
- "Pharoah" Pharoah Sanders
"Blessed Relief" Frank Zappa - "Black Napkins" Frank Zappa
- "Round Midnight" Thelonius Monk
